Backing Up Your Applications

Caspio periodically creates backups of your account data; however, you can create your own backup copy of your Caspio apps and data.  It is a good idea to make a local copy before making important changes to your apps, particularly your DataPages and tables.  This way you can revert to a working version easily, if necessary.  This article takes you through the process of exporting all of your Caspio Bridge objects, data and files.

Steps to Exporting All Caspio Bridge Objects, Data and Files:

1. Export files

Files can only be downloaded from Caspio Bridge individually.  This step is usually unnecessary as files rarely change due to implementation changes.  You can however export your files at any time if needed.

In the Caspio Bridge Explorer window go to the Files view.  Select a file and click the Download button.  If you have folders you will need to double click on each folder to open it, and download each individual item.  Note the file structure, because it is not exportable.  You can also contact Caspio Support to order a bulk download for an additional fee.

2. Export tables

Multiple tables can be exported at the same time.

3. Export all views

Multiple views can be exported at the same time.

4. Export all DataPages

DataPages are exported by folder.  Each folder will create a different zip archive.  If you have Web User Authentication enabled, this will be helpful when importing the DataPages later.

5. Note the Web User Authentication structure

Web User Authentication is not exportable at this time.  It is important to note the authentication table of each folder, as well as any custom authentication setup you may have.

6. Export Styles and Localizations

If you have customized any of the default Styles or Localizations you can export these as well to save a local copy.  If you are using the defaults then it is not necessary as they are included in all accounts, and can be requested at any time.

Steps to Importing All Caspio Bridge Objects, Data and Files:

When importing objects, data and files into an empty Caspio Bridge Account it is important to follow a certain order because of object dependencies.

1. Import all of the referenced files

Files need to be uploaded one at a time.  Unless you are migrating to an empty account, this step is usually not necessary.  Go to the Files section of Caspio Bridge.  Add folders to recreate the file structure as it appeared in the original account.    Click on the New Folder button to add a new folder.  Upload the files individually into their appropriate folder.

2. Import all of the tables

After the files are in place, upload all of your tables.

3. Import the views

Now that the tables are present you can upload any views.

4. Import the Styles and Localizations

Any altered Styles and/or Localizations can be uploaded now.

5. Create the DataPage Folders

If the current account does not have the same file structure as the original account, you will need to recreate it.  Add folders by pressing the New Folder button.

6. Setup Web User Authentication

Web User Authentication is not exportable at this time.  Authentication will need to be recreated if the account is empty.  Since you have already uploaded the authentication tables and recreated the file structure, you can now add authentication to the folders using the same settings as the original account.

7. Import the DataPages into the correct folder

DataPages are exported by folder.  For each folder that contained DataPages, double click on the folder to open it.  Then press the Import DataPages button.  Locate the archive that corresponds to that folder.  Press Next.  The second screen of the DataPage Import wizard will alert you to any warnings that may cause problems during the DataPage import process such as a missing table, Web User Authentication differences, etc.  Once these warnings have been addressed, click Finish to import the DataPages.
