AI Tools
3 minutes to readAI tools is where you create the AI agents and knowledge bases for your account. An AI agent sets which AI provider and model answers your app users, how the agent behaves, and which knowledge bases it can reference. A knowledge base is a collection of files, such as policies, product guides, or FAQs, that agents use when they answer. You set up an agent once and select it in the Chat AI Agent of any Flex app.
How it works
AI tools has two tabs in the left navigation item AI tools: Agents and Knowledge bases.
- Create knowledge bases. Upload the files you want agents to use. Caspio processes each file so agents can reference it.
- Create an agent. Select the AI provider, the AI model, and the effort level, describe the agent’s purpose and tone, add instructions, and assign up to 10 knowledge bases.
- Use the agent in an app. In the Flex Designer, select the agent in the Agent setting of a Chat AI Agent. The Chat AI Agent supplies the data sources from your app, and the agent supplies the model, behavior, and knowledge.
Agents and knowledge bases belong to the account, not to one app. One agent can serve many apps, and one knowledge base can serve many agents. When you change an agent, every Chat AI Agent that uses it picks up the change.
If a Chat AI Agent also has its own Instructions, the agent uses both sets of instructions. Use the agent for guidance that applies in every app, and the Chat AI Agent for guidance specific to one app.
AI providers
Each agent uses one AI provider: OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. You can let Caspio use the provider’s current default model or select a specific model, and set how much effort the model puts into each response. More effort improves accuracy but takes longer.
The default agent
Every account includes Caspio agent (Default), which uses OpenAI. A Chat AI Agent uses it until you select another agent. You can’t edit or delete the default agent.
Data access
An agent answers from the data sources selected in the Chat AI Agent and from the knowledge bases assigned to the agent. The signed-in app user’s role permissions still apply, so an agent never returns records the user’s role doesn’t permit. For details, see AI Agent overview.
Limitations
AI agents and knowledge bases are not included when you export an app with Vault. When you import an app that uses a custom agent, its Chat AI Agent switches to the default agent so the app keeps working.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
- How is AI tools different from Caspi?
Caspi helps you build and edit Flex apps. AI tools sets up the agents that answer your app users inside the apps you build. - Can I use one agent in more than one app?
Yes. Agents belong to the account, so you can select the same agent in the Chat AI Agent of any Flex app. - What happens to my apps if I delete an agent they use?
Before the agent is deleted, you select a replacement agent. Every Chat AI Agent that used the deleted agent switches to the replacement. - Do I need a knowledge base to create an agent?
No. Knowledge bases are optional. Add them when you want the agent to answer from your own documents.
